the Taeung Hall.

The Ryonghung Temple is in Yonggwang County, South Hamgyong
Province. Located within the boundaries of the Paegun
Mountain Fortress, the temple was first erected in 1048. After demolished to
ashes in a fire in 1792, it was rebuilt in 1794.
At
present the Buddhist sanctuary is made up of many buildings like the Taeung
Hall. The Taeung Hall, the main
building, has many brackets but its decorations are simple and comparatively
humble. The canopy over the Buddhist statue is delicately carved in a gorgeous
style, and the sculptured dragon hanging from the canopy is quite admirable. In
striking contrast to the delicately-patterned gorgeous canopy, the dragon
sculpture is cut awesome, elevating the value of the temple.
