Natural Monument
Hamhung Pansong
Hamhung Pansong (Pinus densiflora f.octopartina Mayr) stands at Sonamu-dong, Hungnam City.
Unlike ordinary pine trees whose branches spread upwards, the tree branches out downwards, shaping like a tray.
The trunk grows, a little leaning to southeast. And at the height of 2.35 metres a prime bough spreads about eight metres southwestward, level with the ground before it divaricates. One is 0.95 metres round and the other 0.8 metres.
The divaricated branches spread six metres longer, drooping gradually.
Numerous twigs with green pine-needles are ramified from these two branches, making the tree crown a beautifully-shaped tray. Its crown is 13.8 metres in diameter.
It is 4.16 metres tall and 2.18 metres round at the bottom of the trunk. Now it is 450 years old. |
