Brilliant Feats Performed by Young People

Young people are reserves of the revolution who constitute a mighty force in building a rich and powerful nation in Korea. They play the role of shock brigade in doing hard and difficult work, displaying wisdom and spirit of youth at all sites of grand socialist construction.

Trusting the young people who are full of vitality and spirits, the leader
Kim Jong Il planned to push ahead with socialist construction relying on them. He ensured that a large-scale youth organization was formed in May Juche 64 (1975) and named it the speed-campaign youth shock brigade, teaching in detail the orientation and ways of its work.

Under his scrupulous care the speed-campaign youth shock brigade has grown into a powerful storming party in the building of socialism, equipped with strong technical force and modern technical means; it has accomplished brilliant feats at construction sites.

The shock brigaders have erected many grand monumental edifices. They include the revolutionary sites and battlefields in Mt. Wangjae, Samjiyon, Oun-dong, Hoeryong and other sites, the International Friendship Exhibition, the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace, the Manpho-Hyesan Youth Railway Line, the East Pyongyang Thermal-power Plant and modern Changgwang, Munsu and other streets.

The gigantic construction sites of monumental structures and grand nature-remaking projects were living stages of the youths to show their spirits and wisdom.

High sense of organization, good discipline and comradely cooperation and love made the young men and women grow up ideologically, mentally and physically.

They find their greatest honour and pride in doing more work for their country and people in their youthful days. The country’s looks have been changed day after day by the efforts of shock brigaders who are full of determination to remove mountains and dike off the rough sea if the country wants them to.

The period of the “arduous march” and forced march in the 1990s proved a time of hard trials when their faith and will were tested.

In those days they set to the construction of the Kumgangsan Youth Railway Line and the Youth Hero Motorway. Of many difficulties food shortage was the hardest trial for the young people.

However, they accomplished the tasks assigned to them without fail, surmounting all the difficulties with fortitude and indomitable will.

Seeing the gigantic creations built in the days of trying ordeals by themselves, the young people proudly look back upon the past days with deep emotions.

The feats of young people in socialist construction shine brilliantly in the
Kim Il Sung Order awarded to the speed-campaign youth shock brigade and the Labour Hero medals and Kim Il Sung Youth Honour Prize which adorn their breasts.

Time flies. Now former youth shock brigaders assume heavy responsibilities at important posts of the Party and state, carrying out their assignments in the spirit of their youthful days.

Marking the 30th founding anniversary of the speed-campaign youth shock brigade, its officials and members glowing with a resolve to build more monumental structures worthy of the Songun era this year are making unprecedented innovations on all construction sites.
